Male Gynecomastia Removal
Male gynecomastia is a medical term, also known as enlarged male breasts, where the breast tissue swells. The most common cause is due to a hormonal imbalance of testosterone and estrogen, which is why it can be common during milestones such as early childhood and puberty. Older men can also develop this condition from normal hormone fluctuations. In fact, gynecomastia is so common that it is estimated that 40 – 60% of the male population develop this condition during some time in their life.
Common signs and symptoms of gynecomastia include swollen breast gland tissue and tenderness in the breast area. Although gynecomastia is generally not serious, it is important to seek medical attention if you have swelling, pain, or a nipple discharge of one or both breasts.
For most men, gynecomastia is a stressful and embarrassing condition, rather than a medical concern. The issue can be corrected through different approaches, which produce a permanent result in most cases. As with all of our plastic surgery procedures, our surgeons will tailor this treatment to the precise needs and goals of the patient to produce the best possible result.
Options in Male Gynecomastia Treatment
Men who are generally healthy and emotionally stable are good candidates for male breast reduction surgery. Gynecomastia can be treated either through liposuction and/or cutting and removing excess glandular tissues. The procedure is typically an outpatient procedure and takes approximately two hours under general or local anesthesia. It is also possible to combine this procedure with other body contouring procedures while under anesthesia.
There is little downtime and most people can return to work and normal activities within a week. After healing, men will see a flatter, firmer, more contoured chest and most men will subsequently see a boost in self-confidence.
Results of Male Gynecomastia Removal
Once you have fully recovered from your procedure, the results should become evident. Your chest will be noticeably flatter and more masculine in shape. It is important to note that, although the results of male gynecomastia treatment are permanent, additional excess weight gain can cause gynecomastia-like effects to reoccur.
